How to protect your hair from colder weather
Fall and winter can be a challenging time for your hair. The cold air combined with the dry indoor heating, can leave your hair feeling dirty, brittle and static-prone. But with the right tips and products, you can keep your hair healthy and shiny and looking great throughout these cold months.
Why winter is tough on the hair
Cold air : When the temperature outside drops the air becomes drier, which can strip your hair of its natural moisture. This can can lead to dry, frizzy hair thats more prone to breakage.
Indoor heating : Central heating systems (whether its in homes or offices) can dry out the air indoors, which has the same effect on your scalp and hair as being outdoors in cold weather does. The indoor heating can lead to dryness, flaky scalps, and frizzy strands.
Static : Dry air is the key problem in creating static-prone hair. The lack of moisture in the air causes those individual hair strands to repel each other, resulting in fly-aways and tangles.
Tight hats and scarves : Wearing tight jackets or scarves can cause breakage, tangles, split ends and static hair. Due to the jacket or scarf being tight or constantly rubbing against your hair.
Tips for protecting your hair in the winter
Moisturize your hair : Use hydrating shampoos and conditioners. Look for products that are formulated with moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, argan oil or glycerin. Avoid over washing : In these colder times we want to make sure our hair is keeping all the natural moisture it produces as possible. Stay hydrated : Not only is staying hydrated good for you and your body its just as good for your hair. Make sure your drinking plenty of water through out the fall and winter months. The water will keep your hair and scalp hydrated and keep it from drying out, you can also eat foods which are rich in water like, fruits and veggies.
