How to maintain your hair color between salon visits!

Everyone who gets there hair done knows the struggle of their new fresh colour fading or your highlights going brassy, and you always think to yourself “how can I keep my colours vibrant while waiting for my next appointment?”

There are many things you can do to maintain your colour and keep your hair looking good!

  1. Use colour-safe sulfate free shampoo

Sulfates can strip colour, so opt for sulfate-free shampoos, specifically ones that are formulated for colour-treated hair. Try to limit your hair washes to only when you need to wash your hair to preserve the colour. A good shampoo that is formulated for colour-treated hair is the Kevin Murphy everlasting.colour wash.

  2. Use a UV protectant

Sun exposure can cause the colour to fade, so look for products when shopping that have UV protection, or wear a hat when outside for long periods of time.

  3. Reduce heat styling

Excessive heat styling can damage the hair and fade the colour more than you would think. Try air drying, and make sure to be using a heat protectant when using hot tools. Like the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil, this also has UV protectant in it!

  4. Avoid chlorine

This one may be hard if your a swimmer or love hot tubs, but chlorine can really cause the colour of your hair to fade or change, especially if you have blonde hair. Try to wear a swimming cap when in chlorine, or to rinse/wash your hair immediately after.

  5. Toner or glosse

If you feel your colour is getting dull, you can always call your salon and see if they can fit you in for a quick toner or gloss treatment. Toners are great for making your colour vibrant again and bringing back to life. Glosses are great at bringing shine and smoothness back into your hair.
